LightGrid Update (1.1) »

Update Changes:

  • Fixed date issue (be sure to refresh the .txt page before you copy and paste).
  • Now on the official Theme Garden (should be updated to latest version soon also).

You should probably check out the Theme Garden for the latest LightGrid changes. I’ll always announce them here though I won’t be posting actual file updates as they’ll be all automatically hosted through the Theme Garden system.

Download LightGrid (1.1) »

Download the blueprint framework-based tumblr theme! Follow this blog for updates and reblog or email me with any issues. Thanks!

Read more about the design here.

Installation

To start, click the link above to download the text file. Select all of the text and copy it.

Then, click the “Customize” button on your Dashboard. Click the “Theme” tab, and click“Use custom HTML”. This will bring up a text box with your current theme’s HTML code. Finally, remove the current code and paste the LightGrid code instead! Click “Save Changes” to finish.

ps: for a better experience, I recommend you modify the code and merge the styles on the text file with the CSS file so the background images show!

Modifying Light Grid

There are several things you should take a look at if you know a bit of HTML.

The Header

First of all, I suggest you download and re-link the following header files so you won’t have any issues in case my server goes down or I move things around later on:

Also, the following image files if you so wish to use them:

I basically put everything in its own subfolder on my server, so images linked from the last CSS file are linked as: url(../img/bg_stripe.png)

Making it Your Own

If you download the .txt file to copy and paste to your theme you’ll notice the text link that sends you back the the home page is generated using the {Title} tag. You can remove this tag and add your own name. If you use a last name or a second word, you can separate it by using <span> instead of a space for a more stylish look.

Don’t forget to add a description to your site if it doesn’t already have one, otherwise it would be best to remove that section. Or you can replace it with a twitter feed which I always thought would be a nice touch but hate the idea of having both the twitter feed and a description… so yeah.

Some Last Words

I can’t make you keep the links on the footer so take them out! Unless you like the theme, a bit of accreditation never hurt. :)

The Surplus

Michael: Why don't you explain this to me like I'm five.

Oscar: Your mommy and daddy give you ten dollars to open up a lemonade stand. So you go out and you buy cups and you buy lemons and you buy sugar. And now you find out that it only costs you nine dollars.

Michael: Ho-oh!

Oscar: So you have an extra dollar.

Michael: Yeah.

Oscar: So you can give that dollar back to mommy and daddy, but guess what? Next summer...

Michael: I'll be six.
